Bridge Street + Miramichi Avenue Reconstruction Begins May 18
A major infrastructure rebuild gets underway — here’s what residents need to know.
Reconstruction work on Bridge Street and Miramichi Avenue will begin on May 18, 2026. The project covers a 1.1-kilometre stretch from the Bridge Street/Main Street intersection, across the bridge, and along Miramichi Avenue to approximately Couture Street. It includes a full rebuild of the road, water, and sewer infrastructure, with work continuing through the end of 2026.
Water Quality — May 19–21
A valve shutoff is currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 20. This may cause temporary water discolouration for residents in East Bathurst, Downtown Bathurst, and South Bathurst.
If your water appears discoloured:
- Run cold water only for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water has cleared.
- Monitor your water quality periodically on May 19, 20, and 21 as the project ramps up.
- Check your water before doing laundry on any of those days.
Traffic Impacts
Traffic disruptions are expected throughout the duration of the project. Residents and motorists are asked to follow posted signage and to exercise caution around active work zones.
Localized Boil Water Advisories
Residents near the work area should be aware that localized boil water advisories may be required at various points during the project. When this happens, notices will be delivered directly to affected properties by the project contractor or the contractor’s on-site representatives.
These localized notices will not be sent through Voyent Alert! or other City communication channels. This process ensures that residents directly affected by the work receive accurate, timely information specific to their property or area.
The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure investment gets underway.
