Burning Regulations and Permits

The City of Bathurst has implemented regulations that govern campfires, open fires or the use of burning appliances within city boundaries. Burning permits can be obtained from the Bathurst Fire Department. See below what situations require burning permits and those not requiring burning permits:

  • OUTDOOR FIREPLACES, meaning structures either built or purchased and installed, DO NOT REQUIRE A PERMIT.
  • OPEN FIRES, meaning fires lit to allowable combustibles that is not contained within a structure (outdoor fireplace), REQUIRE PERMITS.

NO BURNING can take place when the provincial Department of Energy and Resource Development has a ban or restriction on open fires.  Please call 1-866-458-8080 or consult their website at: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/news/public_alerts/forest_fire_watch.html

When a valid complaint is received regarding a campfire, the Bathurst Fire Department is authorized to order the immediate extinguishment of the fire.

Full regulations and more detailed information on restrictions can be found in By-Law NO. 2017-09 by following the link below:
