The City of Bathurst and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1282, representing Inside workers, have ratified a new collective agreement.

“We recognize the collaboration and forward-thinking approach of our Inside administrative employees, an approach that is consistent with our corporate vision and mission. We highly value this collaborative relationship with our working colleagues, demonstrated once again by a negotiating process that was quick and efficient. We thank them for sharing our belief and corporate mission to best serve our citizens”, said Mayor Kim Chamberlain.

The five-year collective agreement, retroactive to January 1, 2026 and ending on December 31, 2030, includes wage adjustments consistent with the provincial Consumer Price Index, which will namely have an established 4.2% increase for 2027. The employee labor group is the city’s fourth unit to adopt this salary structure. The collective agreement also includes enhanced language for temporary employees with defined term lengths to match operational needs. This language also provides better process for supporting growth and development opportunities for employees to train in other positions within the bargaining unit.

“Our members are pleased with this renewed agreement. There is an open-door approach with our management colleagues, one that we sincerely appreciate. It allows us to enable continuous working improvements and a methodology to quickly address and resolve occasional issues. This maintains the trust in our collaborative working relationship, based on respect and professionalism”, said CUPE Local 1282 President Shawn Gauvin.
