Bathurst has new Chief of Police

The City of Bathurst announces the nomination of Stéphane Drolet as new Chief of Police of the Bathurst Police Force. His nomination was confirmed at the special public meeting of City Council on Monday August 17th. Drolet will begin his tenure on Monday August 31st, replacing Guy Thériault.

“With 34 years experience in protective services, Mr. Drolet brings substantial knowledge and skillsets to the Bathurst Police Force. His view of the importance of community-centred policing, transparent communication, and meaningful engagement with residents, businesses, and local organizations are definite assets. These pillars are most important to us, and we strongly believe Chief Drolet will be up to the task”, said Mayor Kim Chamberlain.

Drolet served as Deputy Criminal Operations Officer for the British Columbia RCMP, also serving as Gold Commander for the provincial response to the 2017 and 2018 wildfire seasons — at the time the largest emergency events in the province’s history. He also served As Chief of Police in Saint John, where he guided the organization through of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stéphane Drolet also has the Governor General of Canada’s Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces designation, a federal honor recognizing exceptional service, leadership, and long-term duty by members of Canadian police services.

“My career has been defined by leading through challenge and change, with extensive experience in in organizational modernization, and evidence-based policing. Whether implementing new technologies, advancing training and professional development, I prioritize sustainable decision-making that balances operational needs, fiscal responsibility, and long-term community outcomes. I’m very much looking forward to share that experience and knowledge with my new colleagues in Bathurst”, said the newly-appointed chief.
