Arrest after high-speed chase

On Wednesday November 8th 2017 at approximately 10;35pm, the Bathurst Police Force was contacted by a patron of a local bar establishment in the Downtown area concerning an individual who was allegedly pointing a firearm at other individuals. Police located the suspect in a vehicle in the Downtown area and attempted to intercept the said vehicle. The driver sped away from the downtown area, instigating a high-speed chase east on Main Street, Bridge Street, Miramichi Avenue and embarked on Highway 11, heading northbound. At the King avenue exit on highway 11, the driver lost control and his vehicle rolled over multiple times, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. However, the driver managed to get the vehicle back on the highway, heading east, before Police crews could secure and immobilize the vehicle. The suspect sped away on Highway 11 and continued towards the Janeville area before abandoning the vehicle and managed to escape on foot in a nearby wooded area. With the assistance of the BNPP force and the RCMP’s Police Dog Services and their Patrol Division, the suspect was located and apprehended without incident. The suspect was then transported to Chaleur Regional Hospital with minor injuries and remains in police custody. A search of the vehicle yielded a long firearm and edge weapons. Charges are expected to be laid once the suspect is released from hospital.
