COVID-19 NOTICE FROM THE CITY OF BATHURST

As the Government of New Brunswick moves into Phase 1 of Recovery for COVID-19, it is critical that public health measures are followed to reduce the risk impact of further waves of COVID-19 to the public and to progress towards a ‘new normal’. Some services will open sooner than others depending on level of risk and potential negative impact. A gradual lifting of restrictions while watching closely for any resurgence is the best way to protect community health.

REGARDING CITY OF BATHURST OUTDOOR PUBLIC SITES AND TRAILS, we are presently working on a plan to activate progressive access to these infrastructures, as per directives and guidance documents from the Provincial Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

AS OF THIS MOMENT, THE CLOSURES THAT WERE IMPLEMENTED BY THE CITY ARE STILL IN PLACE. We ask the public for their patience and understanding while we work towards opening access.

*** IMPORTANT ***

Once access is established to public sites and trails, it will be primordial for citizens to comply with social distancing and other safety guidelines that still apply. Failure to do so will force us to close access to designated sites and trails.

The City of Bathurst greatly appreciates the high level of understanding and cooperation residents have demonstrated through these difficult times and thanks all for the continued efforts by all.

PRESS RELEASE

BATHURST OFFERS PAYMENT RELIEF OPTIONS FOR WATER AND SEWER SERVICES

The City of Bathurst will be providing customers in need with a payment deferral option in an effort to ease the financial strain felt by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.

A resolution passed unanimously by Council members during the special public meeting on Monday March 30th officially enacted the payment options, which will take effect immediately. This will enable residents and businesses experiencing unexpected financial hardships to defer payments toward their water and sewer account until June 30th, 2020, with no late payment charges or interest charges applied. Further, the City will suspend any disconnection of water service for non-payment during this period.

“We recognize that water and sewer services are an essential component. At this most unprecedented and perilous of times, it is vitally important for us to offer assistance to citizens and private business operators who are in need at such a time,” said Mayor Paolo Fongemie.

Customers will have a period of up to June 30, 2020, to make payments while avoiding interest and late charges, a decision that aligns with other extensions granted by Canadian utilities as part of the COVID-19 crisis.

It should be mentioned that those who are able to make regular payments as usual are encouraged to do so.

“We know our population is resilient, but this generation and a few before have never faced this kind of challenge. We stand with all our citizens through this most difficult of times and it is our sincere hope that the situation can stabilize as soon as possible, allowing our community and our region to begin the process of returning to normal,” concluded Mayor Fongemie.

Water and Sewer Services payments can be processed through the following methods:

  • By calling 548-0400 and processing payments with a Credit Card;
  • By accessing the City of Bathurst Website’s Online Services (www.bathurst.ca, top menu);
