Water Interruption and Boil Water Order
The water main repair will require a temporary water service interruption for affected properties.
Hand-delivered letters about the water service interruption and boil water order have already been distributed to affected residents. If you received one, please follow the instructions in your letter. Further updates, including when the boil water order is lifted, will also be hand-delivered.
Water Quality Before and After the Work
Work on a water main can stir up natural sediment in the pipes. Before, during or after the repair, you may notice discoloured or cloudy water in the area. This is temporary.
If your water is discoloured:
- Run the cold water tap for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
- Avoid using hot water and hold off on laundry until the water is clear. This keeps sediment out of your hot water tank and prevents stains on clothing.
- If the water is still discoloured after that, call City Hall at (506) 548-0400.
Running the tap does not replace the boil water order. If you received a boil water letter, keep following its instructions until you are told the order has been lifted.
Additional Traffic Impacts
The City recognizes that this unexpected water main break comes at an inconvenient time, with the planned Vanier Boulevard bridge closure also beginning October 9.
While this repair was not planned, crews are making every effort to complete the necessary work as efficiently as possible and minimize disruptions to motorists.
We apologize for the additional inconvenience and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation.
