Fire destroys East Bathurst home
On Sunday May 17th at approximately 3:30pm, the Bathurst Fire Department was activated to a residential structure fire at 1080 Bayview Court, in East Bathurst.
Upon arrival, fire crews noticed thick smoke emanating from the roof of the structure. Crews were also confronted with heavy flames on the backside of the structure. While activating water suppression, firefighters accessed the structure and noticed the attic was also impacted by flames.
With high wings generating concern, a team from the Ste Anne Fire Department was called in to assist in flame suppression and to protect adjacent structures. Both fire teams were able to rapidly control and extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, the house was burned beyond repair.
No one was inside the structure at the time of the fire. However, two pets were caught in the blaze, one perishing.
A preliminary investigation was conducted into the cause of the blaze as well as a follow-up investigation by the Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal, the results yet to be confirmed.
