Be Aware of Fraudulent Text Messages

October 02, 2025
The City of Bathurst has received reports of fraudulent text (SMS) messages circulating in our community. One common example is a “municipal parking infraction” notice that urges you to click a link and pay a fine.
Even if the message says the word "municipality", that does NOT make it official. Fraudsters often use government or municipal names to trick people into acting quickly.
How to Protect Yourself:
- Do not click on links or open attachments from unknown or unexpected senders.
- Be cautious of urgent messages that try to scare you into paying quickly.
- If an unexpected text message feels suspicious, it probably is.
- Always go through official channels
