  April 19, 2017

The City of Bathurst is proud to announce the nomination of Ernie Boudreau as new Chief of Police. His nomination was confirmed at the public meeting of City Council on Tuesday April 18th.  Boudreau takes over from present Chief Eugene Poitras, who is retiring from the police forces after 39 years of service.  “Ernie Boudreau has a wealth of experience from both his field work and management responsibilities. As one would say, he’s been in the trenches, has a solid understanding of the workings of a Police force and is well respected by his peers within the Bathurst City Police and other police detachments. He is fully deserving of all these accolades and we congratulate him on his nomination”, said Bathurst Mayor Paolo Fongemie.  “As our municipalities and local service districts are presently discussing the regionalization of the policing structure in the Chaleur Region, Chief Boudreau’s leadership will be welcomed as we move forward on this agenda”, added Mayor Fongemie Boudreau began his career in policing as member of the New Brunswick Highway Patrol from 1984-1988. He also served as Corrections officer with the New Brunswick Solicitor General’s Office from 1988 à 1990. The City’s new police chief began his tenure with the Bathurst City Police in 1990 as Patrol Officer, as a member of the Drug Section Joint Forces Operation in 1993, then as Crime Prevention Officer in 1999. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2001, to the rank of Sergeant in 2006 and to the role of Deputy Chief in August 2015. “There is no greater privilege than to have the opportunity to head a respected organization such as the Bathurst City Police. I am therefore honored and humbled to have received this nomination”, said Boudreau. “We will continue to provide the quality service that this community deserves. Community safety, well-being and quality of life of our citizens are core values that we hold true and will continue to uphold moving forward”, the new police chief added. Ernie Boudreau will officially assume his new functions on Monday May 1st 2017.
