Confidence in the City of Bathurst’s economic standing and growth development strategies are gaining increased attention as the City has ranked #4 in RATESDOTCA’s “Top 10 Places to Call Home in 2021” Report.

Affordability, growth and lifestyle-oriented criteria like scenery, nightlife, outdoor activities and accessibility are the main elements that were used as survey benchmarks. From 150 communities ranked, Bathurst joins Kelowna BC, Trois-Rivières Quebec City QC, and Niagara-on-the-Lake ON on the Top-10 list. Sydney NS was the only other Atlantic municipality making the short list.

“This report shows that people across Canada are beginning to realize what kind of a hidden gem Bathurst is. We have everything one would need to live with in the City and region, this in an environment where open spaces, idyllic scenery and various recreational possibilities supporting healthy lifestyles are prime elements”, said Acting Mayor Lee Stever.

“For all its difficult challenges, COVID-19 also put focus on the ability to work from home, this eliminating the requirement to live in a major urban environment with little, and cramped property space to show for it. We’re already seeing a positive impact from this with a real estate market that has been very active, and that trend is expected to continue based on reports like Rates.ca. Housing is priced very reasonably when comparing with other provinces, with jobs available in a growing economy. This is quite an interesting combination that shows the strong potential there is here”, said Stever.

Bathurst’s rising profile also comes on the heels of the City’s launch, in November 2020, of Incentive Programs for first-time homeowners, residential development and business opportunities.

”Over the past five years, there has been renewed positive energy and economic confidence, with enhanced development, especially in our Downtown core. More and more people and business interests are taking note of the immense potential here. I can tell you there are many irons in the fire at the moment, and even if only a small percentage of those turn into concrete projects and developments, the future bodes well for the next few years”, concluded Mayor Stever.
