City of Bathurst and firefighters ratify collective agreement
The City of Bathurst and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3040 have ratified a new collective agreement. This agreement, which is retroactive to January 1, 2017 and expires on December 31, 2019 represents a balance between what was important to the Corporation and the union local. “We are pleased to have a collective agreement in place with our firefighters. The negotiation process itself went well as both parties approached negotiations with a vision focused on collaborative efforts towards an agreement. We recognize this and wish to thank the negotiating committee members for their work during this process”, said Bathurst Mayor Paolo Fongemie. “Our representatives worked diligently to achieve an agreement that included improvements in both wage and incentives. Both sides advanced matters that were important to them in this round of bargaining and the agreement shows that. We’re happy the negotiating process went well and believe the contract is good for both parties”, said Frank Sullivan, President of CUPE Local 3040. The 3-year agreement includes wage increases of 2.5% per annum over the contract term, overall improvements to Health and Safety as well Physical Fitness Training Program initiatives.
