BATHURST PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Because of COVID-19 considerations, the temporary location for committee meetings is at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, in the Paul Ouellette Room. 

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Advisory Committee will be considering the following applications at its next regular meeting, on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 5:15 PM:



275 Bayshore Drive: Mr. Michel Blanchette has made an application to build an addition on his house located at 275 Bayshore Drive. The applicant proposes to build the addition 7 feet and 4 inches +/- from the side lot line. The property is zoned Waterfront Residential (R5). The main building will be approximately 28 feet and 10 inches in height. Due to the height of the main building, the minimum setback required from the side lot line is 8 feet and 5 inches creating a variance of 1 foot and 1 inch +/- for the side lot line setback.



1040 Daniel Drive: Mr. Denis Jean has made an application to build an addition on the house located at 1040 Daniel Drive for a Granny Flat. The property in question is zoned Residential Single Family Dwelling. The proposed use of “Granny Flats” is permitted subject to such terms and conditions as may be imposed by the Planning Advisory Committee.



2240 St-Peter Avenue: Media 2000 Ltée has made an application to modify to the existing billboard sign located at 2240 St-Peter Avenue for an “Electronic Message Board Sign” The property is zoned Highway Commercial. The type of sign proposed is not specifically permitted under the city of Bathurst Zoning by-law. 

The City of Bathurst Zoning by-Law section 1.7 states that: 

SPECIAL POWERS OF THE PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE 

1.7.4 The Planning Advisory Committee may permit, subject to such terms and conditions as it considers fit: 

(a) a proposed use of land or a building that is otherwise not permitted under the Zoning By-Law if, in its opinion, the proposed use is sufficiently similar to or compatible with a use permitted in the By-Law for the zone in which the land or building is situated.



101 Harbourview Boulevard: The City of Bathurst has made an application to replace the existing billboard sign located at 101 Harbourview Boulevard for an “Electronic Message Board Sign”. The property is zoned ‘’Central Business District.’’ The type of sign proposed is not specifically permitted under the city of Bathurst Zoning by-law.  

The City of Bathurst Zoning by-Law section 1.7 states that:  

SPECIAL POWERS OF THE PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE 

1.7.6 A non-conforming use may continue notwithstanding the Zoning By-law but; 

(d) with the consent of the Planning Advisory Committee, a non-conforming use may be changed to a similar non-conforming use;

Anyone wishing to make a presentation before the Committee in regards to these applications is invited to inform the Department of Planning and Development before 4:00 pm, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, by calling 548-0457 or by e-mail at donald.mclaughlin@bathurst.ca. The Planning Advisory Committee will meet at 5:15 pm, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, to consider written objections to the proposed land use. Anyone wishing to address the Committee on the written objections may do so at that time.
