Welcome to the Bathurst Fire Department's section on the City of Bathurst website. Our department has been in operation since 1891 and was at the time known as the "Keystone Fire Department". Until the early 50's, it was strictly volunteer.
Presently, we have a complement of 39 members, including 16 full-time firefighters, 3 temporary, 17 volunteers, a secretary, deputy chief and chief. Our service is not limited to firefighting. We strive to save lives by continuously training and preparing our personnel for emergencies, such as land and water rescue, Hazmat incidents, and fire prevention. We communicate in both French and English.
