NB Power improves grid stability, communications and customer preparedness as winter approaches
At the onset of winter storm season, NB Power is launching new online communications tools and hosting a series of community-based public information sessions to help customers be prepared and stay safe in the event of a weather related power outage this winter.
"I want to personally thank you, our customers, for your patience, support and perseverance as we learn from past storms and prepare for the impact of future storms. Our goal is to show how your energy utility is preparing for extreme weather events and we want to help you get ready for the potential impacts of weather-related power outages," said Gaëtan Thomas, President and CEO of NB Power.
"We will never stop improving and seeking out knowledge to better our ability to deliver the safe, reliable service that you depend on. Your safety and comfort is vitally important to us, as is your trust. We're working hard to ensure we meet your expectations in every way. "
NB Power and Saint John Energy are recognizing November 17-21 as Storm Preparedness Week.
As part of the week's activities, NB Power has launched a new mobile-enabled outage mapping tool and safety-focused web content to help customers be prepared in the event of a weather-related power outage.
Customers are also invited to attend one of six 'Let's talk about extreme weather' information sessions being hosted by NB Power in communities throughout the province. Specific dates and locations for the sessions are available on the NB Power website.
NB Power has reviewed its response to the storm events of 2014, and has committed to investing and improving tree trimming and vegetation management programs, emergency preparedness and customer communications.
NB Power is also working closely with provincial government and non-profit partners to ensure the needs of customers are met in a coordinated and predictable way while power is being restored following an extreme weather event.
In addition, NB Power is in the second year of enhancing system reliability with major investments in transmission lines and replacement of protection equipment at all substations. The utility's partnership with Siemens Canada is also leading to technological improvements in all parts of the New Brunswick grid, which will enable the company to identify, assess and respond to outages more quickly.
"When extreme weather events affect our province, NB Power works hard to reconnect customers as quickly and safely as possible," added Thomas. "Through these investments and improvements, we are working year round to ensure our system is reliable and resilient. Storm Preparedness Week is our way of connecting with customers to help them be as prepared as possible when severe storms hit."
