City will not seek Judicial Review in Arbitration process

  January 14, 2020

The City of Bathurst will not seek a Judicial Review in the Arbitration process regarding two officers of the Bathurst Police Force.

On December 24th, 2019, Arbitrator Joël Michaud rendered his decision in the Arbitration hearings related to the tragic events of January 12th, 2015, concluding that Officers Patrick Bulger and Mathieu Boudreau had not contravened the Code of conduct violations under the Police Act.

“Following the decision on December 24th, 2019, it was important for us to take the necessary time to carefully analyze the decision before making any statement. We recognize the arduous work done during this process and the decision rendered by the Arbitrator, through a public and transparent process, and we accept the decision”, said Mayor Paolo Fongemie.

The two officers will begin their reintegration process on Monday January 20th, 2020, comprising internal administrative/ operational elements and external recertification components.
