Bernard Cormier resigns from Council
February 27th, 2018
Bernard Cormier, member of Bathurst’s City Council since May 2016, has resigned from his Council position. Cormier has accepted a new position as a Community Economic Development Executive for the Chaleur Region.
“I will greatly miss my role as a City Councillor. I will miss my interaction with my Council colleagues while working for the wellbeing of the citizens of this wonderful city. That said, under the guise of good governance and also to avoid any perception of conflict of interest, resigning my seat from Council was the necessary thing to do on account of my new position. I could not, in good conscience, allow myself to become a distraction from the work of Council and its commitment to Bathurst residents and the Chaleur Region”, said Cormier.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie recognized Cormier’s commitment during his tenure. “Bernard Cormier has been an active member of Bathurst’s business community for many years and brought that valuable experience and knowledge to the table as member of Council. We thank him for his work with us and for our citizens. We wish him well in his new position, where he will have the continued opportunity to foster economic development and growth for the Chaleur Region”, said Fongemie.
An election is expected later this spring to fill the vacant seat on Bathurst City Council.
