The City of Bathurst announces the nomination of Stéphane Roy as new Chief of Police of the Bathurst Police Force. His nomination was confirmed at the special public meeting of City Council on Monday April 26th. Roy was serving as acting Chief since the retirement of his predecessor, Ernie Boudreau, on December 14th 2020.

“Stéphane Roy has a wealth of knowledge and experience, from his studies in Social Work, to correctional services and time served with the RCMP, the BNPP and Bathurst Police Force in various roles. He is also well respected by his peers. This background will serve him well as our new Police Chief. He is fully deserving of his new role and we congratulate him on his nomination”, said acting Mayor Lee Stever.

“I am surrounded by a great group of men and women who have helped shape my career. I would not be where I am today if it was not for their help and guidance along the way. I will do everything in my ability to honor and build upon the history of the Bathurst Police Force and the leadership of this great organization. Now more than ever, strong relationships of mutual trust between police agencies and the communities they serve are critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing, which is what we will strive to achieve moving forward”, said Chief Roy upon his nomination.

Born in Beresford, Stéphane Roy graduated from Bathurst’s École secondaire Nepisiguit in 1993 and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in social work at Université de Moncton. He then went on to work at the Atlantic Institution in Renous for Correctional Service Canada for 3 years. Roy then graduated from the RCMP Training Academy in Regina and was posted in Hobbema Alberta, before coming back home, to join the BNPP Regional Police force in 2001. He then joined the Bathurst Police Force in 2004, serving in general duty patrols, as an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Division and then promoted to the rank of Sargent. He served on patrols as a front line supervisor, then later assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as the supervisor for the unit. In 2017, he was appointed Deputy Chief in charge of Operations, up to his nomination as Interim Chief in December 2020.
